Accounting Manager
Location: Hunt Valley, MD
Schedule: Hybrid (Tuesday-Thursday Onsite, Monday & Friday Remote)
Salary: $120,000 - $140,000 Annual Base Salary
About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a strategic and hands-on Accounting Manager to lead day-to-day accounting operations and support the continued growth of the organization. This position offers the opportunity to oversee key accounting functions, drive process improvements, and partner closely with leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, leadership experience, and a proactive approach to managing deadlines in a dynamic environment. Experience with inventory accounting is highly preferred, and public accounting experience is considered a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Oversee the general ledger, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end procedures.
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Lead and mentor accounting team members, providing guidance, training, and performance support.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
- Analyze financial results and identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with operational leaders to improve financial controls and business processes.
- Oversee inventory accounting activities, including valuation, reconciliations, reserves, and cycle count reporting.
- Coordinate annual audits and support external auditors with requested documentation.
- Review and improve accounting workflows, policies, and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow monitoring, and financial planning initiatives.
- Support special projects, system implementations, and process improvement efforts as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Prior experience managing month-end close and financial statement preparation.
- Inventory accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Public accounting experience is a significant plus.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Background
- Experience supporting manufacturing, distribution, consumer products, or inventory-driven environments.
- CPA designation or CPA-track candidates are encouraged to apply.
- Proven ability to improve processes and implement accounting best practices.
